Latest News All-Women's Race a Huge Success
All participants and organisers of the TriNSW All-Women's Camp were again full of praise for Forster Tri Club's ability to stage a successful event, after the Women's Race this morning at the Forster Keys race precinct.
Although the water temperature pulled up at a bracing 13.9 degrees, the weather was otherwise perfect, with plenty of sun and little wind to trouble the competitors.
50 women from all parts of the State raced over two race distances, with most favouring the 400/18/4 option. It was a great chance to put into practice some of the skills learned under the expert coaching of Kristy Kraft, John Hickey and the other TriNSW coaches.
The overall winner was Lisa Marangon in the time of 44:59, followed by local racer Kerith Duncanson in the time of 50 minutes even, and Holly Ranson with 50:02.
Abby Stretkowicz took out the Novice event in 38:54, followed by Bree Hassenein (39:28), and Alana Spencer (41:24).
President Rhett Pattison expressed his gratitude to all the volunteers who helped set, run and break down the race over the weekend. Full results on the Club's Results page, here.
If you've always wanted to be a triathlon coach, here's your chance. Expressions of interest are being sought for a Level 1 course in Port Macquarie sometime in September. The organisers need 10 starters to get the course off the ground, and so far there are about 5 takers from Port Macquarie and Tamworth.
If you are interested, contact Vice President Murray Verran as soon as possible, and your interest will be forwarded to the organisers.
All-Women's Triathlon Entries Now Available
Entry forms are now available for the All-Women's Triathlon to be held on Sunday 22nd August, in conjunction with the TriNSW Women's Triathlon camp to be held in Forster that week.
The triathlon will be the culmination of a week of intensive coaching, bonding and training for a group of women of all ages and experience, but is open to any female triathlete, novice or experienced.
There will be two race distances available - Novice and Enticer - and entry forms are available for download here.
Please note that entries close at 4pm on Saturday 21st August. No entries will be taken on the day.
Membership fees for the new season are now due and payable. The Committee has succeeded in keeping the fees on a par with last season, but with the added advantage of your own personalised timing chip, for use with the Club's new timing system.
Chips will be provided in the first instance at no cost, but replacement chips will incur a cost of $20. See the "Join the Club" page for more details.
Download a Membership/Renewal form here.
The Club will hold a non-sanctioned duathlon on Sunday 4th July at Cundletown, commencing at 9.00am.
The race will be the Club's first chance to try out the brand-new timing system in a race environment.
The event is a non-sanctioned race and will be treated as a training session, with no traffic control, marshals, and points will not be on offer. Juniors will race first and then seniors will have the choice of two distances - 4/20/2 or 2/10/2.
The race will be followed by a Committee meeting (all are welcome to attend) where the main agenda items will be the Fee Structure for 2009/10 and the All Women's triathlon weekend in August.
The celebration for 2009/10 marked a particularly successful year for the Club, which saw a healthy number of members racing, an impressive bank balance, and an impressive collection of open races organised and managed by the Club, including the All Women's triathlon in August, the Taree Festival triathlon, and the Gloria Jean's 5km Run for Fun.
Outgoing President Richard Sewell announced he would not be seeking re-election, and praised all members and committee people for their efforts in making the Club's year such a success. He reassured members he would still be active in the Club, but with so many people keen to participate not just in the sport, but in the management of the Club, he was sure that triathlon was in safe hands for the foreseeable future.
The election of officers produced the following office bearers for the season 2010/11 -
President - Rhett Pattison Vice President - Murray Verran Secretary - Belinda Crossingham Treasurer - Caroline Pattison Junior Development Officer - Vickie Farrow Publicity Officer - Murray Verran Race Director/Handicapper - Jonathon Osborne Public Officer - Peter Johnson Committee Members - Richard Sewell, Tracey Sewell, Steve McInerney, Toni McInerney, Dan Aldridge, Kristy Aldridge, Donna Bayley, Ben Murnane, Michael Farrow, Dan Crossingham, Chris Johnson, Ian Sadler, Yvonne Kelly, Jodi-Lee Flanagan-Schneider.
All Women's Triathlon Camp Returns to Forster 1/6/10
Forster has played host to this extremely popular concept on two previous occasions, and it has proved a resounding success both times. The camp is run by TriNSW, and features coaching by top-line triathlon coaches, swim, bike and run sessions including bunch rides and one-on-one stroke correction. The weekend culminates in a race over Enticer or Sprint distance staged by the Triathlon Club.
If you wish to attend the camp and benefit from sharing this experience with other women, of all ages - whether you race Sprint, Olympic, long course or Ironman distances - click here for more information, or to register with TRiNSW. We'll see you there!
Daniel Crossingham Qualifies for Kona 26/4/10
Now that Daniel and Belinda are home from cruising the South Pacific and can take all your congratulatory phone calls, I can reveal that in October this year they are off to Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii, in order for Daniel to compete in the Ford Ironman World Championships, held on 9th October at Kailua-Kona.
Daniel's time of 9:40:16 at Port Macquarie - although outstanding - did not immediately qualify him for Kona, but when the roll-down the next day reached his name, he did not hesitate to grab the opportunity with both hands.
Kona is considered to be the pinnacle of Ironman racing, being both the spiritual home and one of the toughest IM courses around. The Club would like to congratulate Daniel and wish him (and Belinda) all the best in Hawaii.
